The casino industry in Korea is growing really fast, according to the Korea Institute of Public Finance. A study by this Institute shows that the casino industry had paid 279 billion won in taxes for 2005, up from the 246 billion Won paid in 2004.

It attributed the upward trend to the development and operation of the Kangwon Land resort, Korea's version of Las Vegas.

Casinos were introduced into the country in 2000 and there are now 13 foreigner-only and one Korean-only casinos in the country, with the number of foreigner-only venues likely to rise as the Cabinet recently passed a provision to ease regulations on opening this style of casino.
