It was recently reported that Station Casinos Inc., a leading Las Vegas-based casino company, has acquired 271 acres of land near Rohnert Park in Sonoma County, California, for the construction of a new gaming facility. The company plans to operate the casino for the Federated Indians of the Graton Rancheria.
Initially, the Indian tribe intended to construct its casino in the proximity of the Infineon Raceway and San Pablo Bay, but local authorities and nearby residents opposed the idea, contending that the area bears special environmental concerns.
Station Casinos expects the federal government to to take part of the land into trust and agree to a compact with the tribe. Although the company refused to reveal the price of the purchase, in its second quarter earnings report, it stated that it has already invested approximately $24 million in the development of the future facility.
